Matheson ≠ Pelosi

You probably remember these signs from 2010’s 2nd Congressional district race between Morgan Philpot and Jim Matheson. Well, apparently Mr. Matheson didn’t like being compared to Nancy Pelosi, because he was one of only 19 Democrats who didn’t vote for Pelosi to be Speaker of the House.  Instead, Matheson chose to vote for North Carolina [...]

Jim Matheson – Every Penny Counts?

Last week, Utah Congressman Jim Matheson started running a TV ad called “Every Penny Counts.”  Many of the points in the ad were misleading or half-truths so I decided I’d make a parody video of it. First, here’s Matheson’s ad: And here’s the parody: Vote for Morgan Philpot on November 2nd!

Read the text here. Congressmen Rob Bishop and Jason Chaffetz voted against the legislation [...]

Last night, the Senate passed the 1,700+ page Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009 (it passed the House in December, sponsored by Elmer Fudd Barney Frank). The House and Senate versions still have to be reconciled before they are sent to the President for his signature.

Jim Matheson’s Challengers

The U.S. Senate race in Utah has stolen a lot of the spotlight because of the possibility of a challenger defeating 3 term incumbent Senator Bob Bennett in the Republican convention. There is another big race in Utah in 2010: the race to defeat 5 term incumbent Congressman Jim Matheson in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District. [...]

Earmarks from Utah’s Federal Delegation

With the exception of Jim Matheson, Utah’s Senators and Congressmen don’t make it easy to find information on their appropriation requests (aka earmarks or pork).  Here are the links to that information for fiscal year 2010 (I’m currently doing some research to find any ties between campaign donations and earmarks): Senator Orrin Hatch Senator Bob [...]
